It is not secret that I absolutely love to read. I am currently in the
middle of my 50th book of 2013 and I usually read between 1 and 18 books a
week depending on time and if I am in the middle of a great series. I, like

This is of course extremely bad news. Think dirty bomb dumped on Seoul.

All US Reactors Flawed
Yes we have a problem. The good news is that energy technology is on the
road to make all reactors obsolete everywhere even if we are still building
them. This means that in time they will come out of the system.
Unfortunately that will be a long time.
The flaw is that we simply opted for too large systems that we have been
unable to properly shut down and dismantle when hit with an accident or
even decommissioned.

Decadal Climate Change Driven by South Polar Sea?
This is intriguing. As I have posted before, my preferred candidate for
sharp temperature drops come from a cyclic adjustment in the Southern
Ocean. Here we have specific evidence of changes acting on the required
time scales of millennia. Of course I am looking for something nice and
orderly but that is unlikely to be true.

This is something that we in North America are quite blind to. The bicycle
is the anchor to improved human mobility everywhere else and the advent of
the electric version has enhanced that.
Improving battery technology has provided sufficient range for the ebike
to be practical and you would not wish to travel further on a bicycle

Two detained in Guangdong.
Taipei police chief Wang Cho-chun said the suspects were arrested by police
in southern China's Guangdong province and repatriated to Taiwan Tuesday.

there's always so much misinformation in the initial confusion. What's
clear is two bombs went off at the Boston Marathon a little while ago.
Hearing one of them was at Mile Marker 26 which had been dedicated to the

My header on Friday's post asserted that: "This blog features only the very best economists that money CAN'T buy." and that "These include Republicans as well as Democrats." However, the two economists in Friday's posts are very likely Democrats. Here below is a timely observation and analysis by a bona fide Republican. Read it and you will see that the common denominators of my selected economists are "deep understanding of macro economics and intellectual honesty." By contrast, our insane government buys off economists and puts them to work illegally tinkering with the economy in an incompetent effort to cover up the government's crimes against We The People.

I was the first to point out that the Federal Reserve was rigging all
markets, not merely bond prices and interest rates, and that the Fed is
rigging the bullion market in order to protect the US dollar’s exchange
value, which is threatened by the Fed’s quantitative easing. With the Fed
adding to the supply of dollars faster than the demand for dollars is

Today is tax day. I got mine in on time. Most Americans-- barely most
Americans (55%)-- think they pay a fair amount of taxes. That's a

Tennessee Republicans Trade Local Control for Corporate Domination
If there's anything Tennessee conservatives hate more than minorities who
refuse to serve as doormats, it is anything public that is not controlled
