Rudolf Steiner On The Modern World's Rejection of The Soul

Below is an excerpt from Lecture One of Rudolf Steiner's 1919 lecture series called, *"The Influences of Lucifer and Ahriman."* "What numbers of people there are today who no longer value the spirit for the sake of the spirit or the soul for the sake of the soul! They are out to absorb from cultural life only what is regarded as “useful.” This is a significant and mysterious factor in the life of modern humanity and one that must be lifted into the full light of consciousness. Review - Celadon Road Sunscreen

Small Footprints at Reduce Footprints - 7 minutes ago
I like being outdoors. I like fresh air, hiking, walking and exploring nature. Sunburn ... not so much! Discomfort aside, sunburns are dangerous and can cause cancer. My skin is sensitive! When outdoors, I burn within minutes. Covering up and sticking to shaded areas helps but it doesn't always fit in with my activities. So, I use sunscreen ... always. Choosing an effective sunscreen (without harmful ingredients) which moisturizes, stays on when swimming or sweating, and doesn't harm the earth is tricky business. Amanda Arkans, from Celadon Road, invited me to try 20 SPF Sunscre... more »

DRONE STRIKES – FOR OBAMA CIVILIAN DEATHS ARE O.K. BECAUSE THE ENEMY KILL CIVILIANS AS WELL In a speech to the National Defense University yesterday outlining his new policies regarding the use of drones in targeted killings US President Obama told his audience; *…before any strike is taken, there must be near-certainty that no civilians will be killed or injured – the highest standard we can set.* *This last point is critical, because much of the criticism about drone strikes – at home and abroad – understandably centers on reports of civilian casualties. "The whole economy of the South west of the Appalachians depended on the Mississippi River. That's how we got our food and cotton to market. We floated it down the river to New Orleans. And Vicksburg was the key to the Mississippi. You can see that we're up here on a bluff. From these heights, small artillery could control the river. The point: yes, it's absolutely ridiculous that a unanimous pick took eleven months. The only somewhat reasonable part of the delay was in the run-up to the 2012 election; it's traditional for the out-party to drag their feet to prevent confirmations just before an election, even though Republicans in this case push that to (and... more »

Just 12 banks control almost 70% of total bank assets. This week at a Banking Committee hearing, Elizabeth Warren grilled Treasury Secretary Jack Lew about capping the size of the Too Big To Fail banks. He danced around her questions and sounds as full of crap as any GOP bank shill who's looking forward to his future on Wall Street. Notice in Lew's weasely, misleading answers he says "we" shouldn't do anything because we're in the middle of implementing Dodd-Frank. A wonderful example of the myopia of the deficit scolds... The background is that Michael Kinsley wrote a particularly bad column last week about "austerity," a key point of which was based on factually incorrect memories of what went wrong in the 1970s; as you can imagine, this earned him plenty of corrections and dismissals from people who used access to accurate economic and government policy statistics. Kinsley was quite taken aback by this, apparently, and wrote a follow up to defend himself. Dan Drezner has already pointed out that Kinsley is still relying on the same inaccur... more »

The process used to reach this end result can vary, but the goal always remains the same. Obama Admits to Killing Four Americans with Drones

Woolwich Beheading Video - THE MAN WITH BLOOD ON HIS HANDS - Baghdad style violence

a "what the fuck is going on here?" moment just happened. That was footage, from yesterday's televised machete attack in Woolwich, London. We've all seen it, the black Londoner saying, "Get rid of your government, they don't care about you," he had blood on his hands. He was called THE MAN WITH BLOOD ON HIS HANDS by that ITV editorial, mentioning Baghdad-style violence. Well, this morning, a version turns up where the ranting black dude has NORMAL COLOUR HANDS, yet he's saying the same shit about 'getting rid of the government'. Does global warming cause tornadoes?

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 18 hours ago
It was sort of inevitable that the deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma would ultimately be blamed on global warming and CO2 by someone. While most people – including those alarmed by "climate change" – reject this attribution, you can find pretty powerful people who promote this incredible link. Senator Barbara Boxer was perhaps the most powerful person who enthusiastically supported the idea that the tornado outbreak was a message from Nature telling us to introduce new carbon taxes. She really sounds religious. You may find lots of stories in the media that discuss a possible connect... more »

The line that the vast majority of British Muslims are peaceful and oppose violent extremism is one that I have heard already following the Woolwich terrorist attack and no doubt will hear over and over again on the BBC. But is it true? Rather than vain hope, let's look at some facts. The band's previous album, *London Calling* had been a all-conquering masterpiece that had music writers, particularly in the U.S., swooning. I recall how, in 1979, The Clash was hailed by many music writers as "the only band that matters." For a brief time, at least, The Clash were clearly the best band in the world. The killing in Woolwich is horrific because it is an everyday horror, brought to you live by mobile phone cameras. Television brings you close, it constantly puts you inside the action, and it's clear from this that any numpty with a meat cleaver can slaughter somebody in the street and in the process drag the political agenda down to the depths. There will be a racist backlash. Probably some awful new law will be passed to 'deal' with the problem (there is no dealing, as such, with simple murder). Intriguing spectra of finite unified theories (FUT)

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 22 hours ago
In November, I discussed FUTs (finite unified theories) which are \(\NNN=1\) supersymmetric grand-unification-inspired versions of MSSM with the additional constraint that the divergences already cancel at the level of the effective field theory. This finiteness boils down to the vanishing of the beta-functions, some anomalous dimensions, and some relationships between the gauge and Yukawa couplings. This condition doesn't seem to be a "must" – the divergences may very well be taken care of by the high-energy phenomena (string theory ultimately takes care of all divergences so its a... more »

Why in the world would Connecticut's top prosecutor , the Governor's office and select legislative leaders seek to secretly draft a new law to block the release of records related to the police investigation into the December 14 , 2012 incident at Newtown Elementary School only ? There allegedly are no additional perps , right ? So why the rush to " secretly draft a law " , why keep this from the public until Tuesday when the plan initially was apparently to sneak this to the Governor's desk right before the Holiday weekend ? Why the rush to cover up photos , death certificates , tapes of 911 calls and how is it that families decide what evidence is worthy of being subjects of public interest consistence with right to know law / FOI laws ? And of course the true tell , why just Sandy Hook and not ALL crimes generally ?

HAS THE WEST’S WAR AGAINST ISLAM RADICALISED WESTERN MUSLIMS?

The so-called ‘war on terror’ is now seen for what it really is; a euphemism for a war against Islam. It began as a war fuelled by Western greed and power as European colonialists divided and conquered Islamic lands in order to plunder their riches. The war about religion and beliefs had long run its earlier course during the Crusades. By the nineteenth and twentieth century it was no longer about religion; it was about oil. Today it has come full circle; it’s still about oil, as well as regional control and hegemony, but for those that resent the West’s intrusion into their lands a... more »
