DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 50 minutes ago
Perhaps you just read the news that Iowa populist Democrat Bruce Braley is way ahead of all the Republicans running for the state's open Senate seat. 2014 is shaping up well for Iowa Democrats. Braley's margins must seem daunting for the GOP now. He leads Matt Whitaker 43-34, Joni Ernst 45-33, Mark Jacobs 44-32, Sam Clovis 43-31, and David Young 45-32. And PPP summed up there report by reminding readers that "although Iowa Republicans may not have a top tier contender in the Senate race, they're still better off without it being Steve King. Did you hear about that new Congressional bill creating a national park on the surface of the moon? Are you automatically assuming that its sponsors hail from the GOP lunatic fringe? Think again. In the growing movement that I'll call the "If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em" Caucus, two Democrats have introduced the legislation: The bill from Reps. *Ramdath v. George Brown College of Applied Arts and Technology*, 2013 ONCA 468 holds that students may reasonably rely on representations in an academic calendar. Such is significant because often such calendars have statements related to formal designation and qualification – errors may be actionable: [5] First, the appellant argues that the trial judge erred in finding that it owed a duty of care to its students. In the appellant's submission, a special relationship giving rise to a duty of care would only be created if the respondents acted reasonably in relying ... more »

Green fullness

risa bear at A Way to Live - 13 hours ago
Polyhymnia walks between the beds critical of eye, noting the way the leaves of corn have curled upon themselves, rattling in hardly any breeze at all. They'd like to make believe it's Autumn now, would they? Playing at getting past the part where seed heads form, waving their silky hair, and then depart, leaving the leaves bereft of any purpose but to leave this world -- except, of course, they don't: that is the gift of mulch. She brings the hose and couples to its end a yellow whirligig, made to sing the holy song of water to the leaves. Today, green fullness. Tomorrow, living grain.

An End Game on Executive Branch Nominations?

Jonathan Bernstein at A plain blog about politics - 1 day ago
I wrote yesterday over at PP about what, from my perspective, is the very good news about Senate reform -- it appears that Harry Reid and the Democrats are now planning to decouple judicial and executive branch nominations, with the current plan to threaten to go nuclear only on the latter. That plan appears to be further confirmed in a NYT story today. It now strongly seems that Showdown July in the Senate will be primarily, and perhaps exclusively, about exec branch nominations -- indeed, while the three DC Circuit appeals judges are going to be moving through committee, there are... more »

Nothing will deter you from that job because you are a part of life. Life pursues itself and is relentless in that pursuit. *Whatever role you came to play you are playing right now*. In June 2013, the controversy surrounding the Central Bank of Iraq returned to the news. Back in October 2012, the governor of the bank and many of his top officials faced arrest warrants over wasting government funds by not properly overseeing its weekly money auctions. The former deputy governor of the bank recently went to the press attacking the case against him and others as the work of political parties who were trying to manipulate the country’s finances for their own gain. Susan Lindauer, then a high ranking CIA agent, was tasked with interrogating Iraqi diplomats regarding any knowledge they might have had regarding a possible attack on the World Trade Center. When her three superiors (Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld) ignored Iraqi evidence that someone was planning such an attack, she carried the story to Congress, a whistleblowing act that resulted in her being held in solitary confinement until well after the attacks took place.
