In the 1990s, I watched a federal trial in a Los Angeles courtroom. The
defendant was charged with selling medical drugs without a license.
The defendant was prepared to argue that a) the substance he was selling
was naturally produced in the body and b) it was effective.
The prosecution moved to exclude such testimony, on the grounds that it was
irrelevant.
The judge agreed. Therefore, the trial was nasty, brutish, and short. The
defendant was found guilty and sentenced to prison for several years.

Sometimes when they touch, it's all a bit too much
I would expect some pretty big fallout if someone in a Canadian
workplace
routinely called a co-worker “Fatty.” Or nicknamed them Chino because
they
had a bit of an Asian look to their features.
But for the most part, such things don’t seem to rile the average
Honduran. I mentioned to one of my co-workers this week that if she ever
came to Canada, it was probably best not to call anybody “Fatty” –

Keep your eyes peeled for pictures of today's NHS demo in Manchester. The
Tories have been going to Manchester for their conferences for several
years now (despite having little support in the city itself). I think in

So what’s Postmedia worth?
A rare big stock trade last week offered a useful indication, and it’s not
pretty.
When the company stock started trading in June 2011, the price was around
$13 a share. Multiply that by the number of shares - about 40 million - and
you have a value of $524 million.
The trade last week was at $1.65, suggesting a value of $67 million. Which

prices, between P2 to P5 per kilo jump in a matter of days and weeks. I
think this issue would surface every 3-5 years on average. In 2008, it was

In today's *El Diario/La Prensa*, (p. 11) there appears an article about
Evo Morales asking that the location of the United Nations headquarters be

New Jersey's Gubernatorial Election Is Just Over A Month Away... And Chris Christie Is Still A Disaster
Let me say that Blue America has enthusiastically endorsed state Senator
Barbara Buono for governor of New Jersey. We've seen what a terrible
governor Chris Christie has been and what a consistent and independent
voice for progressive policies Barbara has been and it was really a no
brainer. And we're glad Barbara has put his polling lead in half. It's
still quite the climb to catch up with him after he endeared himself by
hugging Obama in a post-Sandy photo-op. Christie's record is something,
apparently, going unstudied by many low-info voters in the Garden State.

The Islamist plan to mount a major terrorist operation in London

'A document found after Somali troops killed Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, al
Qaeda's former leader in East Africa and a senior Shabaab commander,
details a plot to conduct multiple Mumbai-like attacks that target
civilians in London. The plot highlights how al Qaeda and Shabaab seek to
strike civilian targets outside Somalia, and foreshadowed Shabaab's attack
on the Eastgate Mall in Kenya this week.

Senate GOPers revolt
Harry Reid could have couched this better (or possibly The Hill truncated
his statement). He should have made the point the impending government
shutdown being engineered by the Crackpot Caucus in John Boehner's House of
Dysfunction is on them even as they desperately try to spin their
harebrained plots to pin the blame on Obama. However, it's probably a good
sign that Senate Republicans mutinied, leaping off the crackpots' ship of
fools in droves.
