Steve Israel Seeks To Jump Start A Conservative Takeover Of The House Democratic Caucus

For Democrats, this is the problem, not the solution-- Israel and Garrison In his Sunday column, The Wonk Gap, Paul Krugman highlighted "the G.O.P.’s near-complete lack of expertise on anything substantive. Health care is the most prominent example, but the dumbing down extends across the spectrum, from budget issues to national security to poll analysis." Political conservatism and serious policy analysis can coexist, and there was a time when they did. Guest Post - A Guide to Going Green - Improvements You Can Make Around the Home

Small Footprints at Reduce Footprints - 1 hour ago
Buying a home is one of the biggest investments you will ever make, however the spend doesn’t stop there as throughout your time in the property you will need to spend money on many factors to ensure the space is comfortable and meets your needs. Spending money on energy bills is arguably one of the largest regular expenses you will have, and with finances tighter in this day and age for a rising number of households, any ways that this can be reduced are likely to be welcomed with open arms. There is often not a day that goes by where there isn’t a story about going green or becomi... more »

WILL AUSTRALIA JOIN THE U.S. TO ATTACK SYRIA AND IRAN?

It was clear before Australia’s recent elections that the previous Labor government under Kevin Rudd would have supported US ‘punitive’ action against Syria – and this despite Australia taking over the presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) this month. However, while the Rudd government may have given political support to the US, it is not known if Rudd would have provided any military support apart from the intelligence and communications resources that are based in Australia. That was before last Saturday’s election. Australia’s conservative incoming Prime Minister, Tony Abb... more »

The Upcoming War On Syria: Has The US "Intelligence" Community Fabricated Evidence To Lure US Into War With Syria? (Why Do I Smell Mossad?)

It does seem that there has been a momentary delay in the US launching its insanely stupid war against the innocent nation of Syria.... With the recent findings that absolutely prove that Assad did not gas his own people, and with the Syrians themselves allowing their own chemical weapons stockpiles to be turned over to international control, there is now definitely a backing off by the US, at least for the time being, in their rush to launch its missile attack on that peaceful nation..... With rising anger in the American people towards their own criminal federal government, there ... more »

Do medical doctors improve health?

By Denis G. Rancourt It is a serious question. If any other profession caused a fraction of the death rate due to medical interventions, then that profession would be prohibited from practicing until a full coroner's inquiry was ordered and completed. Well, you can describe blow-back against decades of imperialism in the Middle East and adjacent areas as an unprovoked attack based on a medieval hatred for your freedoms. You can invade a country and kill anywhere from 50,000 to a million people (they couldn't be bothered to keep track) because they wouldn't turn over a suspect in the terrorist attack unless evidence of his guilt was produced. You can then impose a super-corrupt, oppressive government on that country's people and blame all resistance against it as being part of an evil conspiracy. You can then attack a country with... more »

Fellow Democrats, it's high time to admit to yourselves that Obama is not the "great black hope" you thought you had elected. On a little reflection you will realize that in the past five years he has presided over the imminent collapse of our economy, talked of cutting Social Security while ever increasing military spending, and lied us into senseless foreign wars that have subjected our troops (who we "support" with little ribbon stickers) to grave injury, post traumatic stress syndrome, and death (often at their own hand). I share my break up story w Latina magazine in this month's issue. It's on newsstands now.

Professional Reputation: Obama and Syria

Okay, with the main point about Syria and the presidency out of the way, time to turn to stuff like this: If he loses the vote on Syria, the Republicans will be emboldened to challenge him on fiscal issues, immigration and on his nominee to be chairman of the Federal Reserve...If Obama wins, his position on those issues, along with immigration, will be strengthened just as he also is starting enrollment for his health-care law. That's Michael Tacket reporting at Bloomberg, but you can find lots of similar examples. It's totally the wrong way of thinking about presidential reputatio... more »

Joel Wing at MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 15 hours ago
The main narratives of the Iraq War tend to come from American and British sources. It has not been until recently that the Iraqi perspective has been added to the mix. One major difference between the two is what was the turning point in the conflict. According to the U.S. Iraq had fallen into a civil war by 2006, and things were not reversed until 2007 when the Surge began. That brought new counterinsurgency tactics, which focused upon protecting the population and turned many tribes and insurgents against their compatriots. Some in Anbar would disagree with that history. Thamir ... more »

* * *"State of Mind: The Psychology of Control"* by Zen Gardner "'State Of Mind: The Psychology Of Control', from the creators of 'A Noble Lie: Oklahoma City 1995', reveals that much of what we believe to be truth is actually deliberate deception. The global elites are systematically implanting lies into our consciousness to erect a “tyranny over the minds of men.” This film exposes the mind control methods being used to turn our once vibrant society into a land of obedient sheeple. Are we controlled? To what extent and by whom? What does it mean for humanity’s future? From cradl... more »

Forces are always at work to put a damper on doers of good deeds and right actions. A few of darkness project their own weakness out upon the lands and reward those who portray or you could also say, betray there fellows. If one appears to be strong or wise, he is discredited and made to look a fool. The Story of the Jews (Part Two)

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 19 hours ago
Did you see the second episode of Simon Schama's *The Story of the Jews,* broadcast last night on BBC Two? If not, please allow me to tantalise your taste-buds about it (or not, as the case may be!) It moved chronologically from Rome's destruction of the temple in 70 AD to the expulsion of the Jews from Christian Spain in 1492, when hundreds of thousands of people were "sent packing from a country where they'd lived for over a thousand years." This latter event bookended the programme's narrative arc and, as with last week's programme, the episode opened by concentrating on a si... more »

They call it a recovery. The OECD has raised its forecast of UK economic growth from 0.8% to 1.5%. This follows on from the British Chambers of Commerce who've floated a similar figure. While economics wonks are muttering "caveats, caveats" the *Daily Express* have had no hesitation proclaiming "Britain's economic recovery is now in overdrive". Resting arguments on evidence might be out of sorts when it comes to punditry, but as someone who thinks commentary should fit the facts and not the other way round it would be dumb to deny the numbers are, handily, falling like pennies from... more »

From Chris Lubienski: Do Charter Schools Promote Social Justice, Privatize Public Education (or both)?

Chalk Face, PhD at SCHOOLS MATTER @ THE CHALK FACE - 1 day ago
Some liberals are quite enthralled with the social justice possibilities of school choice. While district and enrollment boundaries reflect segregated residential patterns in the US, in theory, choice allows families to select schools across these artificial barriers, eradicating an important institutional impediment to equity. Moreover, schools then must compete to attract students, just like businesses […]

The Elegant Solution

Peter D has been running a fantastic series on PUFAs and cancer. Lots of references to linoleic acid promoting the growth of hepatoma cells. "In the lab situation rapid hepatoma tumour growth needs either arachidonic or linoleic acids. The acids must be taken up in to the hepatoma cells, they must be acted on by lipoxygenase to produce 13-hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid, better known as 13-HODE. 13-HODE appears to be the mitogen which promotes rapid cancer growth. 13-HODE looks like a repair signal gone wrong in cancer cells." We've moved! We're renting a much larger, newer, and more comfortable house in central Mississauga. We've lost the huge backyard of our old rental home, but the backyard here is still a decent size, the largest of any house we saw that we'd want to live in.
