Beating the Tin Drum

Martyn Daniels at Brave New World - 7 minutes ago
As far as the consumer is concerned is it the device, or the functionality it enables, or is it the content it can render that is ultimately the decider? Is it in fact cyclical and does the technology always come first, closely followed by the features and functions and the actual content come last, or are we now at a point of change? Who today would buy, or even want the pre iPhone mobile? Was it purely down to the iconic design and presentation of the iPhone, or the apps it unleashed and app store? Would the device have been enough without the digital content? We then have the d... more »

Syria President Assad both the President media blitz on Monday and the Tuesday night speech - with his own television interview for the American public with Charlie Rose....... He denies having anything to do with any alleged chemical weapon attack ( which he has doubts as to what occurred based on evidence produced to date , if an attack did occur he suggests the Rebels may be behind it. ) If there is conclusive proof Assad ordered the attack , that commanders under his direction and / or control received orders to deploy chemical weapons , now would be the time to come forward with hard evidence. Based on the commentary from Congress , the evidence produced to date is not compelling !

Returning, like a cat to a bird-table, to the subject of the BBC's reporting of the Australian election results, I see that Tory MP John Redwood is not impressed by the corporation's coverage: As news breaks of a large conservative victory by Tony Abbott’s Liberal/National Coalition in Australia the BBC sets about the task of retailing propaganda from the losing Labour party. If liberal democrats were serious about opposing the looming Syria war - why not discuss Libya ? First , Libya ( as is the case pro-offered for Syria ) , stemmed from an alleged humanitarian crisis . Second , both Libya and Syria are pro-offered under the guise of " limited kinetic actions " - limited as far as American lives lost and time spent on the actions ( regretfully neither will be limited for the libyan or syrian people who die / are maimed are are left to mop up the aftermath. ) Third , Libya was sold as moderate rebels would replace a dictator who savagely repressed his people and dissension - ditto for Syria , even the same Al Qaeda stamp on the Rebel forces there ( as in Libya . ) Fourth and finally , why won't the descent into miltia rule and absence of a credible government that has befallen Libya be the template for an " Assadless " Syria - insert for islamic jihadist " militias and Al Qaeda linked forces with libyan militias and you are right there , right ?

Tepco “Groundwater moves at 10cm/day” → Tepco’s own past data shows “Groundwater moves at 260cm/day” Posted by *Mochizuki* on September 7th, 2013 · No Comments Share on facebookShare on twitterShare on emailShare on printMore Sharing Services After 300m3 of leakage, Tritium density was observed to be as double as before in the well downstream of groundwater, which strongly suggests the possibility that the leaked water sank underground and moved by groundwater. Tepco is denying this possibility based on the assumption that groundwater moves at 10 cm / day (very slow). However, on the... more »

Syria War updates - Can the White House even pass a War Resolution - with 217 No votes in the House of Representatives presently ? Let's face facts - has the US ever looked as incompetent , uninformed , out of its depth and totally outclassed by our enemies such as Russia and China ( and their allies who benefit such as Iran and Syria ) ? Do we have the ability to speak anything but lies these days - referring to our leaders ? Do they even know what they're talking about when they open their pie holes ? As we get schooled , doesn't it seem as least possible that the Al qaeda Rebels set up some if not most of these chemical attacks - why can't the US acknowledge that at least ? And remind me again , besides Al Qaeda and the US , who actually is publicly supporting the rush to war by the US ?

The Indignant Teacher’s Second Letter to Bill Gates

jillconroy at SCHOOLS MATTER @ THE CHALK FACE - 1 day ago
Back in June, The Indignant Teacher published a heartfelt plea directed towards Melinda Gates, via Teacher’s Letters to Bill Gates. As with the letters posted to the site before and after hers, it went ignored. Today she has submitted her second letter to the site: ***************************************************************************** Mr & Mrs Gates, Shame on you. I am sickened […]

Ottawa cops in hot water, again.

noreply@blogger.com (deBeauxOs) at DAMMIT JANET! - 1 day ago
A video allegedly showing police brutality in the ByWard Market late Friday night has prompted a review into the incident by the Ottawa police, says police Chief Charles Bordeleau. The shaky video appears to show a man being forced to the ground by three police officers. While being held by officers, the video documents one officer punching the man in the upper body and head area as many as a dozen times. The one-minute video does not show how the altercation began, nor does it show police taking any suspects away. From here. I heard this report on Radio-Canada. The police ... more »

Syria. We Must Act!

Andrew Coyne (among many others) tries to make a compelling argument for intervention in Syria in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by Assad. I'm sorry, but my cynicism and skepticism just runs too deep on this one. I just don't see how western military powers can implement an effective response that achieves the lofty ideals we are trying to protect. The use of chemical weapons

Making the moral case for Israel

I am sorry to say I missed the first episode of Simon Schama’s five-part series “The story of the Jews” when it was aired last Sunday but I caught up with it via the link on BBC Watch and Craig’s impressive gesticulation-free summary. Because of the BBC’s well documented antipathy towards present-day ‘Jewishness’ and its Arab-centric views about the legitimacy of Israel, pro-Israel bloggers have been holding their breath till Schama gets to the period of his ‘story’, circa 1948, to see whether they’re in for a feast or a fight; relief or despair. Naturally, whether or not Shama’... more »

http://www.prudentbear.com/2013/09/difficult-decisions-ahead.html Difficult Decisions AheadSeptember 6, 2013 posted by Doug Noland The repricing of global bonds continued, despite escalating tensions in Syria and soft payroll data. The latest G20 meeting was dominated by deep divisions over Syria in an increasingly divisive global backdrop. The Middle East is precariously divided. In Europe, leaders remain deeply divided over how best to deal with Eurozone issues. The American population is deeply divided on political, social and economic issues. Congress is deeply, deeply divided ... more »

Fat Free Econ 47: Pork Scam vs. Public Debt Scam

Nonoy Oplas at Government and Taxes - 1 day ago
* This is my article yesterday in interaksyon.com. ---------- MANILA - The government is setting aside P330-plus billion a year in interest payment alone for our public debt, and many people are not angry with that huge transfer of money from average taxpayers to rich lenders. The people are angry (and rightly so) of the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam. Let us compare the numbers and see why public anger is disproportionate to the money that is siphoned off from their pockets. At the heart of public anger and discontent over the Napoles pork barrel scam is the huge lump-sum mo... more »

That is how I look at Syrian conflict. It started with a peaceful demonstration to current horrendous situation. Is it possible that U.S. intervention can lead it to a 'gigantic wildfire' which can engulf the Middle East and the world? Is there a diplomatic resolution of the current conflict?

But that sell off lasted for just a few seconds, as a buyer showed up instantly, and within five minutes gold was up over thirty five dollars off that low. The low tick and high tick came within five minutes of each other, and Kitco recorded those as $1,359.80 spot and $1,394.50 spot respectively. I carefull... more »

This could cause a huge upset for the established parties -- and dramatically alter the German political landscape. Urghh, a gloating blogger! (Please imagine a smiley face). ......... So, Tony Abbott's conservative coalition has crushed Kevin Rudd's Labor Party in the Australian federal election. The Australian public have spoken, and in very clear terms. I can well imagine that a few desperados on the Left here in Britain will blame 'The Dirty Digger' (Rupert Murdoch) for Mr Abbott's convincing win with the Ozzie electorate. They will doubtless be complaining - and I see they already are - about the strident (and, yes, they probably will use such a pejorative adjective) support given by his ... more »

More about that 'man'

Not a sheep at Not a sheep - 1 day ago
This morning I posted this after reading on the BBC that: 'A man has been arrested after the M25 Dartford Crossing between Kent and Essex was closed in a security alert.' . I wondered 'a man'? That's usually code on the BBC, I wonder if it is this time too? This afternoon I see on the BBC that some more information about this 'man' has been revealed: 'The 27-year-old foreign national raised suspicions after he ran from the scene to a rough area nearby.' Now he's a 'foreign national', tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, what next?
