Not sure what I have that didn't matter...I suppose I don't really think
that the specific votes among mainstream Republicans on ending the shutdown
mattered all that much. That is, it mattered a lot that it ended, but it's
relatively unlikely that anyone will draw a primary (or a more significant
primary) only because of a "yes" vote, or take a hit in the general because
of a "no" vote, all else equal. It's possible, but unlikely.

End of life decisions
The Supreme Court of Canada this week that doctors in Ontario could not
unilaterally decide to withdraw ordinary life support from a patient they
considered effectively dead. It is important to emphasize (contrary to some
media reports) that the decision was based on Ontario statute law and does
not apply across the country.
Basically the decision held that end of life determinations are to be
decided (in Ontario) by the family, or duly appointed personal
representatives or a government tribunal specifically empowered to decide.

Chase Bank's recent covert imposition on its small-business depositors is a warning that "the end is near." Not the end for the banks and banksters, rather for their depositors who they will rob. The 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act that had separated depository and investment banking now allows banks to commingle their deposits and investments. And because of the Dodd-Frank Act, banks can no longer be bailed out by the government. So the next crash will result in Cyprus-style “bail-ins,” meaning (legal!) confiscation of depositor funds in order to recapitalize the failed (criminal) banks. Foley was enormously popular within the House during the 1980s, at least
among Democrats, as he moved from Ag Committee Chair to Whip to Majority

Every time my husband and I are driving to my parents house, we pass a
billboard for Gardner Village. It simply says "Your wife loves this place."

a major Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter. In an effort to bring the

I hear that the BBC children's TV show from my childhood, The Clangers, is
going to have revamp and return to our TV screens in 2015. I hope they
don't ruin my memories of the original...
Of course if the Clangers return, then so will the Soup Dragon.

' Millions of British Gas customers are set to see their energy bills rise
by up to 35% after it announced increases in gas and electricity prices.
The firm, which is the UK's largest domestic energy provider with 16
million residential customers, will raise electricity prices by 9% and gas
prices by 35%.
The hike in gas prices is thought to be the biggest ever by a UK energy

latest increase. Average [mean] wealth per adult reached a new all-time
high of USD 51,600, with wealth per adult in Switzerland returning to above

“This intriguing trio of galaxies is sometimes called the Draco Group,
located in the northern constellation of (you guessed it) Draco. From left
to right are edge-on spiral NGC 5981, elliptical galaxy NGC 5982, and
face-on spiral NGC 5985- all within this single telescopic field of view
spanning a little more than half the width of the full moon. While the
group is far too small to be a galaxy cluster and has not been catalogued
as a compact group, these galaxies all do lie roughly 100 million
light-years from planet Earth.
