The EDL condemns immigrants. My new rule for when I fancy doing a bit of the ol’ condemnation is: “Do the people I’m condemning have any actual power?” The immigrant capacity to cause social negativity is pretty slender. Happy Birthday to Daphne Zuniga, 51. I know I've babbled on about this before, but The Sure Thing is just a much better movie than When Harry Met Sally. Good stuff: 1. A nice interview with David Mayhew. By the way: the APSA Congressional Fellowship is basically the best thing in the world. I didn't do it (didn't apply; I had already spent four plus years on the Hill, plus it wasn't right for our family situation at the time), but from everything I know, both from talking to friends who did it and from reading the research of those who did it, it's absolutely the best thing. 2. ... more »

Rob Zerban Announces A Rematch Against Paul Ryan In Wisconsin

Last year, with no help from the DCCC (unless you want to consider negative help of Steve Israel calling wealthy donors and telling them to not "waste" their money on Rob Zerban), Rob Zerban came closer to defeating Paul Ryan than any Democrat had before. Ryan represents a swing district in southeast Wisconsin, WI-01 (Kenosha, Racine, Janesville, Muskego, Elkhorn and southern Milwaukee suburbs like Oak Creek and Greendale. Abandonment

Stephen Harper has abandoned three of his senatorial appointees -- including the man he once called "my most valuable senator." Abandonment defines the man. And in foreign affairs, Joe Clark writes, Stephen Harper has "all but abandoned the global arena." Foreign affairs has never been the prime minister's strong suite, even though he has spent a lot of time in international forums. Clark writes: In the seven years between his first election and the time I am writing this, Stephen Harper would have been exposed directly to informed and passionate leaders describing similar chal... more »

US has finally found a way to energize and unify much of the world on a foreign policy issue - unfortunately , it's due to NSA spying ! And regarding spying on France - was this the work of Mossad ? R.I.P. Lou Reed (1942-2013). "Like a Possum"

Loads of musicians are coming out of the woodwork, declaring their love for Reed and claiming what a wonderful influence he was on their music. You know, it's a shame that more people didn't love Reed when he was still around. After all, his brilliant albums with America's greatest band, the Velvet Underground, were all commercial duds. The Velvets certainly weren't ever played on the radio---at least in America. And Reed's four-decade solo career hardly did much better. In... more »
