genetically engineered foods if labeled - has sued Vermont to overturn the

.....as I drove by I caught a glimpse of an elderly man. He looked pretty
ragged, and he was sleeping in the doorway of a business closed for the

Siméon Denis Poisson was born at the beginning of Summer 1781, on June 21st
(like today), to a French royal soldier. He would die in 1840, at age of
58. He was a top French mathematician, geometer, and physicist of his era.
Both Lagrange and Laplace were his advisers. Liouville, Dirichlet, and
Carnot (of the thermodynamic cycle fame) were among his students.
Revolutionary changes in France have influenced him in many professional

US Supreme Court Protects Polluters
A week or so ago the US Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that state laws posing
statutes of limitations for environmental crimes are NOT trumped by the
federal Superfund law:
"Toxic Water Ruling May Doom Marines' Claims" (2014, June 10) The Arizona
Republic, p. 3B."North Carolina's law requiring lawsuits to be brought
within 10 years of contamination is not superseded by a federal law
designed to give victims a two-year opportunity to file claims after the
pollution comes to light"
Other states have similar laws limiting liability for polluters. Victims
are simply out of luck.

UPDATING FROM HOT KANSAS
- Having a great visit with my son in Kansas City where he brought 17 of
his debate students from Taiwan for a big tournament. There were about
3,000 kids at the tournament from the US and around the world. Six of his
kids made it to quarterfinals and it was fun to see them get their awards
yesterday in the closing ceremony. Last night we took seven of the boys to
a Kansas City Royals baseball game. This morning one of the Taiwanese moms

with new S-400 Triumf systems, the Ministry of Defense said Friday.
“They acquired new military hardware there – air defense missile system
S-400, which in the near future will be delivered to the anti-aircraft
division in northeast Russia,” Pacific Fleet spokesman Roman Martov said.
Several months ago combat units from the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky air

from fighter aircraft Su-30MKI by the Air Force from a naval range off Goa

More Than 400 Military Drones Have Crashed Worldwide

“major accidents” both abroad and in the United States since 2001,
according to a new Washington Post investigation.
The report Friday, based on more than 50,000 pages of documents obtained
under the Freedom of Information Act, found that hundreds of military
drones have crashed in previously unreported incidents due to a host of
problems, including mechanical failure, human error, weather and other

(June 19), the "field-testing" was largely about how students react to
online testing and what testing experts call "item-analysis," which means
eliminating tricky items. These are low-level aspect of field-testing.
There is no indication that the big questions will be asked now or ever: Is
all this testing, the largest investment in testing ever made, worth it?

Florida Legalizes Medical "Marijuana" But You Can Still Be Fired For It
Florida's Governor signed a bill legalizing a form of medical "marijuana"
called Charlotte's Web this week. The law will go into effect next year.
I'm underwhelmed. While it's a bit of a victory for patients covered under
this new law (cancer or a physical medical condition that chronically
produces symptoms of seizures or severe and persistent muscle spasms), as
is typical with Florida laws there is zero protection for employees.

I have not done any reports in quite sometime about the ongoing
investigation into child abductions from orphanages here in Canada where
evidence clearly shows they were taken over to Europe and molested and

Exponentially Better
Every day technology moves forwards in leaps and bounds. Time was tech
moved like a stream, a well governed controlled stream. Disruptive
technology was not allowed. Now it moves in the words of John Prine, "like
a broken down dam".
Technology is snowballing but so is human misery. I am not hopeful that we
