It's a grand day for a subway-line opening -- but then, after two years of waiting, what day wouldn't be?

*by Ken* After all the delays (about two years' worth), not to mention all the cost (the price tag we're hearing is "nearly $2.4 billion"), it's hard to believe that the day is finally here: the opening of the extension of the No. 7 line west and south from Times Square to 11th Avenue and 34th Street (last noted here). There's a celebration of the opening of the new Hudson Park, built in the area of the new western terminus of the No. 7, sponsored by the HY/HK (Hudson Yards/Hell's Kitchen) Alliance, scheduled to begin today at 11:30 -- timed to coincide with the ribbon-cutting fo... more »

Jeremy Corbyn is not alone in his relationships with terrorists and their supporters

'Labour now has a leader who describes Osama bin Laden's death as a "tragedy" and admits meeting IS sympathisers. But the dodgy links do not stop there. The party's new candidate for London mayor, Sadiq Khan, also caused a storm when he vocally defended terror suspect Babar Ahmad, who then pleaded guilty to conspiring to raise funds for the Taliban. What is it with Labour's new top team and cosying up to terrorists?' What indeed? Migration: NYT hit piece on post-socialist Europe

Rick Lyman wrote a The New York Times text about the different attitudes of European countries towards migration yesterday: Eastern Bloc’s Resistance to Refugees Highlights Europe’s Cultural and Political Divisions The part of the title about "political divisions" sounds impartial. The identification of the countries as the "Eastern Bloc" – which hasn't really existed as a bloc for 20 years – is already more biased, much like the word "resistance". But the title is still fair in comparison with the body of the text. WARSAW — Even though the former Communist countries of Central and... more »

We have done close to nothing about the stunning rate of illiteracy in this province. We tolerate a legal system which allows... more »

Clashes at Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque per BBC News

The BBC news report has been updated http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34237219 and as I predicted takes one side of the story. 'Clashes have broken out at the al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem after Israeli police entered the compound, reports say.' Dozens of police broke into the site and Palestinians threw stones and fireworks at them, Israel's Ynet news reports.' So the Israeli police just broke into the site for no reason? And then the Palestinians responded? 'Similar clashes took place at the end of July.' Any interest in reporting the causes of those? 'Al-Aqsa ... more »

The institutionally anti Israel BBC are reporting http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34237219 as a headline with no actual content yet that 'Clashes reported as Israeli police enter al-Aqsa mosque complex in East Jerusalem' Presumably the details will be spun so as to vilify Israel by only giving one side, the Muslim Arab side, of the story any validity.
