He was introduced by the local congressman, Raúl Grijalva who became the first Member of Congress to officially endorse Bernie's presidential campaign-- something he had explained earlier in the day on CNN. Hopefully other progressives will follow suit. The Northrop YB-49 Flying Wing

Oberon at GlobaLove Think Tank - 2 hours ago
The Northrop YB-49 was a prototype jet-powered heavy bomber aircraft developed by Northrop Corporation shortly after World War II for service with the U.S. Air Force. The YB-49 featured a flying wing design and was a jet-powered development of the earlier, piston-engined Northrop XB-35 and YB-35. The two YB-49s actually built were both converted YB-35 test aircraft. The YB-49 never entered production, being passed over in favor of the more conventional Convair B-36 piston-driven design. Design work performed in the development of the YB-35 and YB-49 nonetheless proved to be valuab... more »

I'm groping in the dark a bit with Wednesday's *Newsnight*. It all seemed a bit odd. Instead of leading with David Cameron's big speech at the Tory Party conference it led with the previous night's *Panorama...* ...which might seem somewhat incestuous ("BBC shall speak peace unto BBC"), except that *Newsnight*'s Nick Hopkins's report seemed to be more a case of sibling rivalry than incest (thank goodness!). Nick Hopkins himself has pursued angles on the self-same story that *Panorama *was trying hard to discredit, so it's probably not much of a puzzle as to why he would want to c... more »

Tuesday night's edition began with more coverage of the Conservative Party conference. Feelings of déjà swept across me. The focus was on Europe and potential Tory splits - as seems to have been the focus (on and off) for the past quarter of a century. My memory is failing me here but I'm pretty sure I read recently that someone big at the BBC had admitted that the BBC spent too much time concentrating on Tory splits during the Major years and had paid too little attention to discussing the substantive issue of Britain's membership of the EU itself. (Can anyone help with a source... more »

Monday night's *Newsnight* came from the Conservative Party conference in Manchester... ...though its initial focus was more on Jeremy Corbyn and the protesters outside the conference than the Conservatives conferencing within. "The most remarkable thing of the day" was Mr Corbyn turning up to protest in person, said Evan Davis. For Evan, this was "a sign of just how different and just how divided politics is at the moment", a "culture clash that's now so evident in British politics". He spoke to some of the anti-Tory protesters, who said that very few of them were spitting or t... more »

A Look At How World War Three Could Start

*PW Singer and August Cole, The Telegraph:* *Here's how World War Three could start tomorrow* *It would only take a small spark to start a conflict between Nato and China or Russia - unleashing previously unseen forms of warfare * There is an old adage that militaries set themselves up by failure by preparing to fight the last war. When it comes to 21st Century warfare, the problem however may not be with looking back, but that we aren’t looking back far enough. For the last two decades, leaders in London and Washington have become focused on operations in places like Sierra Leona... more »

Don't Cry for Me, Aristotle

Allow to me to pull on your coat about something: a wee story about Art, Tragedy and Catharsis. You’re watching a good ‘weepy’ with a box of tissues on hand, and you cry your eyes out – that’s what we call ‘catharsis,’ isn’t it? As everyone knows (or thinks they know) *catharsis* is a healthy purging of all your repressed emotions. You see a devastatingly good film or heroically moving play and pretty soon there ain't a dry eye in the house.
