Saudi Arabia Threatens To Invade Syria With A 150,000 Mercenary Army Under The Guise of Fighting ISIS

* Heads will roll.* In the last few years the rulers of Saudi Arabia and Turkey decided to abandon peace with their closest neighbours, Yemen and Kurdistan, choosing war instead. Although the wisdom of these wars are highly questionable, at least they can be managed. The Houthis and the PKK are not the proxies of anyone, at least not publicly, and they can be isolated relatively easily, as they have been in the past. But now they want to attack Syria that has regional and international allies? Are they crazy? Are they bloodthirsty? This is nuts. Foolish and naked aggression agai... more »

*-by j. darcy* The primary reason propaganda works so effectively is that the practitioners understand their target audience will accept it on faith. This is what they count on, in fact-- that the audience is just low-info enough not to recognize that they've even been propagandized in the first place. It's a deeply cynical and unprincipled exercise which, for obvious reasons, is never intended to make anybody smarter. *"Seven Rules for Believing"* by Chet Raymo "I was reading again recently Richard Dawkins' letter to his daughter Juliet on her tenth birthday, urging her to avoid tradition, authority and revelation as reasons for believing. Ask for evidence, he writes - evidence that is at least potentially available to all. Good advice, and I wouldn't mind passing on Dawkins' letter to my own children or grandchildren. But there is further advice I would add. A week or so ago I proposed here Four Rules of Rational Thinking, and had some savvy comments by readers. Let me now propose Seven Rules o... more »

“If any man is able to show me and prove to me that I do not think or act right, I will gladly change, for I seek the truth, by which no man was ever injured. It is only persistence in self delusion and ignorance that does harm.” - Marcus Aurelius

* This is my article in BusinessWorld last February 04, 2016. Labor mobility and migration across countries and continents is a result of push and pull factors in both the labor exporting and labor importing or receiving countries. Labor-surplus countries generally have lower wages and labor skills due to limited employment opportunities while labor-deficit countries generally have higher wages and skills training. If labor migration is heavily restricted via multiple regulations and permits, taxes and mandatory contributions -- if not prohibited outright -- the wage gap and income... more »

"Dignity..."

noreply@blogger.com (CoyotePrime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
"No one else can confer dignity on you; it is something that comes from within. You cannot fake it or acquire it as you would an accent. You can only receive the gift of dignity from your own heart. When you learn to embrace your self with a sense of appreciation and affection, you begin to glimpse the goodness and light that is in you, and gradually you will realize that you are worthy of respect from yourself. When you recognize your limits, but still embrace your life with affection and graciousness, the sense of inner dignity begins to grow. You become freer and less dependent ... more »

The Poet: Rumi, “Whoever Brought Me Here”

noreply@blogger.com (CoyotePrime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
*“Whoever Brought Me Here”* "All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea. My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there. This drunkenness began in some other tavern. When I get back around to that place, I'll be completely sober. Meanwhile, I'm like a bird from another continent, sitting in this aviary. The day is coming when I fly off, but who is it now in my ear who hears my voice? Who says words with my mouth? Who looks out with my eyes? What is the soul? I cannot stop asking. ...more »

Another good article from Wan, CEO of IDEAS in Malaysia, reposting. The photos I just added here and not part of the original article. -------------- *Lessons from the TPPA debate* by Wan Saiful Wan Jan. First published in The Star 2 February 2016 I am pleased that our parliament has voted for Malaysia to sign the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (‪#‎TPPA). Over three days, both the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara debated the issue and the government won the vote in both chambers. However I am very disappointed by the way the vote was won. Members of both chambers voted according t... more »

A Reminder

Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 1 day ago
I traveled three hours north to Blue Hill, Maine on Thursday along with VFP national board member Tarak Kauff who co-led our delegation to Jeju Island and Okinawa last December. We were invited to speak at an event there that also featured fellow VFP members Dud Hendrick and Russell Wray - both of whom came on that same trip to Asia. It was exciting to see the others again and our collective presentations came across well - we got good reviews from those in attendance. In a small way it helped us honor our promises on Jeju and Okinawa that we would go home and spread the word. ... more »

Message from the Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers

"As you move through these changing times... be easy on yourself and be easy on one another. You are at the beginning of something new. You are learning a new way of being. You will find that you are working less in the yang modes that you are used to. "You will stop working so hard at getting from point A to point B the way you have in the past, but instead, will spend more time experiencing yourself in the whole, and your place in it. "Instead of traveling to a goal out there, you will voyage deeper into yourself. Your mother's grandmother knew how to do this. Your ancestors ... more »

*Nick Paton Walsh, CNN:* *You thought Syria couldn't get much worse. Think again* (CNN)Aleppo's fall to rebels -- back in 2012 a much more moderate bunch than the often al-Nusra-infected alliances we see now -- was a symbolic moment: the commercial heart of Syria turning on the country's own government. Now, as thousands flee to the Turkish border from Russian airstrikes pounding the city and government forces moving in, the battle for Aleppo is again gaining significance. The towns of Nubul and Zahraa were reached by government forces late Wednesday and their seizure could mark... more »

Is The DCCC As Hated Among Florida Democrats As It Is Among California Democrats?

Every bit as horrible as the last DCCC chairman-- and the one before that A few days ago we looked at why California Democratic Party activists have been rejecting the DCCC and telling them to go shove their corrupt conservative candidates up Ben Ray Luján's and Steve Israel's asses. But a growing hatred for the DCCC among Democrats isn't confined to California. Florida Democratic Party activists have been waking up to the Beltway shenanigans that have proven catastrophic for Florida Democrats for over a decade when then-DCCC chairman Rahm Emanuel started recruiting Republicans to r... more »

The male harvestman “Halitherses grimaldii” lived some 99 million years ago in what is now modern-day Burma. Discovery reports: Researchers from the Berlin Museum for Natural History conducted the study and say the find is the first to show an erect penis frozen in amber. The ancient spider specimen (Halitherses grimaldii) is a harvest... more »
