Is there any way to put America back on the course that would give workers a bit more time to invest in their families, their communities, and themselves?

The problem isn’t so much not having it all, but having way too much.

Traditional wisdom and psychological studies agree: A wandering mind is an unhappy mind. So why is it so hard to live in the moment?

Why do people spend so many hours per day worrying, daydreaming, or focusing on anything but the present?

"Writing is the only palliative that I’ve found that hasn’t tried to kill me. Being a creative human being is necessary for my survival. I know that some people feel that art is a luxury, that the time to make art is a luxury, but I’ve always just made time for it—wherever or however I could. I wrote 'So Sad Today' in my car, mostly on the L.A. highways. I dictated most of it. If you need it, you’ll make time for it."

By calling a special session to keep transgender people out of the restroom of their choice, the legislature shows its extremism.

"A military force effectively unaccountable to the people tears at the very fabric of the Constitution, which is at pains to mandate firm and complete control over the military by Congress, acting in the people’s name. Combine such a military with a range of undeclared wars and other conflicts and a Congress for which cheerleading, not control, is the order of the day, and you have a recipe for a force unto itself."

In the decades since the draft ended in 1973, a strange new military has emerged in the United States.

Jeff Craig "no one can simply allow China to bully its way to controlling a vital trade route". Using the military to protect trading companies. I learned about this in school, and I guess the quote is true: "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it". It's the East India Trading Company all over again. Britain went to war to protect the 'vital trade route' for the East India Trading Company, or the world would end. So today, we have to go to war to protect trading corporations, or the world will end. China building man-made islands in their own waters, thousands of miles away from America, doesn't threaten a single American.

Pedro Lamy According to Admiral Harry Harris, the US Pacific commander, China is "building a great wall of sand in the South China Sea".

What he is referring to is China building airstrips in the Spratly Islands, which are the subject of a dispute with the Philippines - a dispute without priority until Washington pressured and bribed the government in Manila and the Pentagon launched a propaganda campaign called "freedom of navigation".

What does this really mean? It means freedom for American warships to patrol and dominate the coastal waters of China. Try to imagine the American reaction if Chinese warships did the same off the coast of California.

Drug industry trolls are again trashing the WOT rating for a site that questions the safety and efficacy of vaccines. How much do they get paid to give bad WOT ratings to such sites as this?

The spirit of the black church has long animated the movements for civil rights and social justice in America. The call and response, the vocabulary of oppression and solidarity: These are the languages of sanctuaries and pews, of Sunday morning worship and Bible-study vigils. But in the black- and youth-led political activism of the last several years, the church hasn’t been nearly as visible as it was in the civil-rights movement of the 1960s. After many decades in which the most prominent black activists were ministers, religious leaders seem to be playing supporting roles in the most recent wave of activism.

A new generation of activists in Baltimore are largely organizing outside the context of congregations. What does this mean for their movement—and for the…
