Dissecting This Week's Unfolding Events

I got the chance to dialogue with Don Grahn from Seattle Community Media again over the major events unfolding this past week, from the Fukushima radiation disaster to the Oroville Damn potential disaster to the current takedown of the treasonous anti-Trump coup after the political assassination of Michael Flynn as his now former national security advisor. The consequences of this subversive overthrow in process has Trump now succumbing to the larger diabolical systemic forces that are the predatory vultures circling around him as they move in for the kill. Why Vegetable Farmers Aren't On Board The No-Till Train

News Staff at Science 2.0 blogs - 46 minutes ago
No-till farming uses cover crops to conserve soil and suppress weeds but many vegetable producers haven't embraced it yet. The reason is simple; small-seeded vegetable crops struggle to emerge through thick cover crop residues. A recent program sought to see how it might work better with string beans, a common staple of many dinners, and possessing larger seeds. In both Illinois and Washington, USDA-ARS agronomist Rick Boydston and University of Illinois ecologist Marty Williams grew vetch, rye, and a combination of the two cover crops before killing them with a roller-crimper—a ma... more »

Here’s what you should know about the so-called “border adjustment tax." The U.S. imports about $2.7 trillion worth of goods a year. Many imports are cheap because labor costs are much lower in places like Southeast Asia. Our current tax code taxes corporations on their profits. So, for example, when Wal-Mart buys t-shirts from Vietnam for $10 and sells them for $13, Wal-Mart is only taxed on that $3 of profit. But under the new Republican... more »

(This went down even as EPA employees were taking the extraordinarily courageous step of organizing opposition to Pruitt. *NY Times*: "Many of the scientists, env... more »

Two Physics Blogs You Should Not Miss

I would like to use this space to advertise a couple of blogs you might be interesting to know about. Many of you who erratically read this blog may probably have already bumped into those sites, but I figured that as the readership of a site varies continuously, there is always the need to do some periodic evangelization. read more

Miraculous Reunion of Leopard Mama and Her Missing Cubs

White Wolf at White Wolf - 17 hours ago
Within hours, the mama leopard’s instincts led her to her crying babies, and their miraculous reunion was caught on camera! The expansion of human the population is a leading cause of deforestation and habitat loss for countless plant and animal species. Between the greed of industries and the booming demand for increased housing and farmland, humans are expanding on natural habitats at an astonishing rate. As people move in closer to native animal habitats, human conflict is inevitable. Since 1995, Wildlife SOS has been actively protecting India’s wildlife and conserving its en... more »

In unison

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 18 hours ago
*Dateline London* may have had a broader spread of guests today (with a right-winger on the panel in the form of Janet Daley) but the unison chorus of disapproval for Donald Trump and all his works seemed fiercer than ever. Surely it's now time (as I may have said before) to find some new guests for the programme (even if just a couple) who actually *support *Donald Trump. This programme goes out to the world and is one of the BBC's flagships (even if few people in the UK might watch it), so it *surely *needs to take its 'BBC impartiality' responsibilities more seriously? *****... more »

China Electricity Stats For 2016

Paul Homewood at NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT - 19 hours ago
By Paul Homewood https://edmhdotme.wordpress.com/comparing-electricity-generation-statistics-in-six-nations/ Ed Hoskins has prepared a neat summary of electricity generation data for 2016 here. It’s a useful go to site for up to date info. In particular, he has found a site which provides data for China, which I normally have to wait for BP to publish in June. […]

And: Opinions pour forth there - and there are more to follow: BBC impartiality gets weirder by the week.

Natural gas leaking from pipeline in Alaska's Cook Inlet

White Wolf at White Wolf - 19 hours ago
Shutting down the pipe is not an option; divers can't reach the leak because of ice Natural gas for at least 10 days has leaked from an underwater natural gas pipeline in Alaska's Cook Inlet and floating ice has prevented divers from reaching the site. The gas is bubbling from a 20-centimetre pipeline in 24 metres of water about six kilometres off shore. The pipeline belonging to Hilcorp Alaska, LLC, moves processed natural gas from shore to four drilling platforms in the inlet. The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is investigating the leak. In an email response t... more »

Our Washington correspondent is David Willis. *DAVID WILLIS*: He's on a roll following Wednesday's rather adversarial press conference, despite the fact that it struck many people as pretty chaotic. Giving yourself the last word

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 21 hours ago
As I was driving to work yesterday I heard Jon Sopel telling the *Today * boys (Justin and John) about his big moment with Donald Trump. The lads were all agog. Then on came Peter Oborne and complained about BBC bias and how smug Mr. Sopel had sounded just then, and the *Today* boys sniggered and fell about laughing at every one of his accusations. Justin then gave himself the last word (defending the BBC against Mr. Oborne). Such larks! And talking about giving yourself the last word, Jon repeated his own 'last word' from yesterday's *News at Ten* in a BBC website article, which clo... more »

Trump to the Media: 'The Public Doesn't Believe You People Anymore'

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
There is a serious problem with our media right now and it has been building for at least a decade. They were paid or in some way persuaded to actively back the Global Warming Hoax and this appears to have extended to shilling for the shadowy New World Order. Both where inherently dishonest enterprises which largely depended on shouting down opposing critical thinking. This came to a head during this past election although it was obvious for both Obama elections. Trump's seminal achievement is that he channeled the American people to by pass the media and elect him to stop w... more »

This is an extraordinary report. It is not unique seen as a lucid dream. Had it been merely a dream of one man, he would have dismissed it soon enough. what makes it unique is both the content and the repetition down through a human lineage. That powerfully confirms a spiritual interaction with an unique entity. However, i also suspect that the time aspect is completely different for the receivers as for the sender. The sender is likely to have made this a one time event in her perspective and then shed a number of aspects down through the time line itself somewhat like shuffl... more »

Long-lasting flow battery could run for more than a decade with minimum upkeep

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
This is very promising. We need flow batteries for all power systems merely to cheaply store power. Even extent power production needs this. surplus power gets dumped into tanks during the hours of operation and thereafter you draw from the tanks. It is the single largest source of efficiency loss in the grid protocol. you can never match output to load perfectly. this makes it plausible. It also does not seem to be too far away either. We will need this to support the electric car business. Imagine tanks of charged fluid leaving a dam for market. All good. *Long-lasting flow... more »

Brien Foerster - new Nazca organic finds - small alien skull and long three-fingered hand

Mike Philbin at Mike Philbin's free planet blog - 22 hours ago
a three fingered (six bones per finger!) alien hand and a small alien skull, once again Brien Foerster delivers the most discussion-worthy material from his continuing insistence that the Viracocha might have been some alien race not-necessarily-from some other planet or realm or dimension. Is this material from the Children of this elongated-skull Viracocha or another 'alien' species entirely? Or maybe just another type of nocturnal animal? Is Class War as Inevitable as the Return of Karl Marx?

director@ieet.org (IEET) at Ethical Technology - 1 day ago
I’ve long written how we should envision America as a continuing revolution against the failed feudal model that crushed human hope in 99% of human societies, across 6000 years. Indeed, our major issues today have little to do with the hoary, lobotomizing “left-right axis.” Not when Enterprise, markets, entrepreneurship and national defense all do vastly better across Democratic administrations, and the state gathers more power into its hands, across Republican ones.
