Talking The 2016 Post-Election Blues

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 38 minutes ago
*-by Bruce Mulkey* On a warm Texas morning on Wednesday, November 3, 1948, I remember my mom, Sue Mulkey, a life-long Democrat, gleefully asking our next-door neighbor, “Well, how do you like our new president?” Defying the predictions of almost every pundit and pollster, President Harry Truman, who had succeeded to the presidency when FDR died, had won a full term, defeating Republican challenger Thomas Dewey in what some considered one of the greatest political upsets in American history. It was especially astounding when you consider that two Democratic factions split from the ... more »

Jesus Was A Pagan Who Worshipped A Male/Female God

Jesus Christ was a pagan who worshipped a God who was both male and female, according to an ancient set of lead tablets that scientists have confirmed date to within a few years of Jesus’ ministry. Biblical scholars are even speculating that one of the books might be the original Book of Revelations as it has seven seals and fits the classical description of the book. The metal “pages” of the lead tablets, held together like a ring binder, were found in Jordan in 2008 by Hassan Saeda, an Israeli Bedouin, and make reference to Christ and his disciples. The Poet: Rolf Jacobsen, "When They Sleep"

*"When They Sleep"* "All people are children when they sleep. There's no war in them then. They open their hands and breathe in that quiet rhythm heaven has given them. They pucker their lips like small children and open their hands halfway, soldiers and statesmen, servants and masters. The stars stand guard and a haze veils the sky, a few hours when no one will do anybody harm. If only we could speak to one another then when our hearts are half-open flowers. Words like golden bees would drift in. God, teach me the language of sleep." - Rolf Jacobsen, "The Roads Have Come to an End Now"

Why Trump Tower Baku Suddenly Disappeared From Trump's Website

Do the Trump family's shady business dealings with criminal elements throughout the world, jeopardize American national security? And was this too complicated and vaguely abstract for the mainstream media to dig into during the election campaign? His tweets yesterday about separating himself from his business is utterly meaningless. It's no secret that the head of the CIA, John Brennan, warned Trump that sabotaging the nuclear deal with Iran, cozying up to Putin and reinstating forms of interrogation considered torture, are policies that would be bad for America. * This is my article in BusinessWorld last November 23, 2016. Until the 1980s, when people talk about multinational enterprises (MNEs) -- also known as multinational companies (MNCs) or transnational corporations (TNCs) -- they refer mostly to multinationals from the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. Three decades after, that has significantly changed. The rise of MNEs from developing and transition economies, especially those coming from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, India, and several ASEAN countries become more prominent each year although multinationals from the... more »

LOSERS: Krugman gets it right three times!

*THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2016Part 4—Getting it right from the start:* How did we liberals manage to turn ourselves into the world's biggest losers? Paul Krugman's remarkable column helps answer that question. We refer to last Friday's column, in which Krugman said, two separate times, that white working-class voters "imagine" that they're looked down upon by us liberals. We regard that as one of the strangest statements we've ever seen in print. It also helps us spot the traits which make us such massive losers. Do white working-class voters "imagine" our condescension, our sneering ... more »

If science built the modern world – specifically, if the scientific *attitude* towards knowledge built the modern world – and there is much evidence to say that it did -- then it really did all begin with Galileo. Because it was with *him* that the experimental method really began. For millennia armchair philosophers had just sat around and *debated* whether objects of different mass would fall at different rates – whether, when dropped from a height, a pound of lead or a pound of feathers would land first. For centuries, the armchair theorists had sat back and argued and had c... more »

Can The Democrats Win Key Governorships In 2018 And Halt GOP Gerrymandering?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
As we've mentioned, a week after the election, the Democrats had better get serious about preventing Republican dominance of Congress through gerrymandering. That means investing in state legislative races in states where Democrats have a chance at breaking up GOP trifectas-- there are 24 of them-- where they can gerrymander to their hearts content. The Democrats broke the Republican trifecta in Nevada and now control both houses, although the check on what *they* can do is a Republican governor. Democrats also flipped New Mexico's and Alaska's state houses but lost control of the... more »

The Money Game: Going Digital for Social Control

Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 1 day ago
When I was leaving the Newark, New Jersey airport for India on November 15 I tried to exchange American money for Indian rupees. I was told by the money changing station that they were not at the present handling any Indian rupees. This was when I first heard about the Indian governments controversial 'demonetization' campaign. When I arrived at the Delhi international airport I got in the long line at the money changing station and discovered that foreigners could only exchange $100 worth of currency for rupees. Indian cash is in short supply. ATM machines were out of cash. ... more »

But if I write with specific examples, then it'll be calling people out which I'm not wishing to do at the moment so I'll just generalize. In addition are my gripes about a new class of diaspora that have c... more »

Nick Leggett’s “defection” surprisingly revealing

In that Labour’s Nick Leggett’s decision to become ex-Labour – and worse, to join the Blue Team! – is so unimportant, it’s important. It’s not so much a defection as a jump aboard one train as his former one was leaving him. *He said he grew up "with Labour burned deep into my DNA" and both sides of his family were supporters. Tony Blair's politics are awful. But, after a 2.6 million word consideration of his conduct in the lead up to the Iraq War, I'm confident in the belief he's not a war criminal. However, some disagree and remain bent on bringing him to justice. The latest episode in this long-running drama was the motion put to the Commons earlier today by the SNP demanding yet another investigation. This was hung on the infamous note passed to George W Bush (relieved he won't now go down as the worst president in US history) saying "we will be with you, whatever".
